DISTRO ACTION 3 - oOoOO CD-R on DISARO

Pictured above is four different hand-collaged covers for a new cd-r by blog sensations oOoOO - just released on Houston's excellent imprint DISARO (perhaps best known for debuting Salem to the world). This 6-track cd is limited to 100 copies and all covers are uniquely collaged and hand-assembled by the "band." Features the widely blogged "No Summr4U" and "Mumbai" as well as "SedSUMTING", "EGYPTYNLVR", "PCKRFCRMX", and "No Shore". Versions of most of these tracks are streaming at their MYSPACE page and here's links to some recent write-ups: Gorilla Vs. Bear, Prefix, & Vice (SPAIN).

DISTRO ACTION 2 - BIG TROUBLES 7" ON BLACKBURN

All right -- we snagged a short stack of the debut 7" by Big Troubles... This is a killer record and is limited to only 350 copies.. look for their 2nd 7" to drop really soon on OESB and then a full-length a bit later on....

DISTRO ACTION 1 - ALICE COHEN "SKY FLOWERS" CD

We're going to be fleshing out the OESB SHOPPE with some additional distro items - many of which will be releases by OESB artists that were self-released or are on other labels. For starters here is a cd from 2008 by Alice Cohen on her own Crinoline imprint. While her OESB l.p. "Walking Up Walls" was a home-recorded affair with countless layers of fog & fuzz, "Sky Flowers" occupies a completely different soundworld as it was a studio recording with rich, clean production. HERE is an excellent article and interview published in Philadelphia's City Paper at the time of the release. And below is her spooky self-animated video for "Black Pepper" - the first song off of "Sky Flowers".

WHAT'S BUZZIN'?? THREE NEW BEES

ALL RITE,,.. GOTS SOME INFOS ON WHAT'S NEXT:

MARCH THE FIRST WILL SEE THE RELEASE OF 3 NEW FULL-LENGTH LP'S.

THEY BEE:

OESB-37 JAMES FERRARO "LAST AMERICAN HERO"
REMASTERED RE-ISH OF A LIMITED EURO-CASSETTE THAT CAME OUT LAST YEAR ON DREAMTIME TAPED SOUNDS (THE LABEL RUN BY LIEVEN MARTENS A.K.A. DOLPHINS INTO THE FUTURE) -- FEATURING NEW COVER ART AND EXTENSIVE LINER NOTES BY MR. FERRARO -- THIS IS ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVE JAMMERS BY FERRARO AND IT IS A SUPER UNIQUE ENTRY IN HIS CATALOG WITH ITS LONESOME HIGH DESERT VIBE AND EVEN A ROADHOUSE BOOGIE JAM TO CLOSE THINGS OUT.

OESB-42 RANGERS "SUBURBAN TOURS"
FINALLY SEEING THE LIGHT OF DAY - THIS IS A MONSTER ALBUM BY SAN FRANCISCO'S JOE KNIGHT - MORE SONG-ORIENTED AND FOCUSED THAN HIS EXCELLENT "LOW CUT FADES" TAPE THAT CAME OUT ON NOT NOT FUN LAST SUMMER. CHECK TODAY'S POST ON CHOCOLATE BOBKA FOR A SNEAK PREVIEW OF THE TRACK "OUT PAST CURFEW". AND CHECK THE VIDEO SIDEBAR TO SEE "DEERFIELD VILLAGE" - WHICH IS THE ALBUM'S LEAD-OFF TRACK.

OESB-48 FOREST SWORDS "DAGGER PATHS"
THE WORD "DANK" IS GETTING THROWN AROUND A LOT TO DESCRIBE THE MUSIC OF LIVERPOOL'S FOREST SWORDS. AND WHILE THAT SUITS THE DEEP DUB ZONED VIBE TO THESE TRACKS THERE'S ALSO SOME ELEMENTS THAT TRANSCEND THE "DUB" LABEL - NAMELY A MORRICONE WESTERN FLICK VIBE TO THE REVERBED GUITAR LINES. CHECK THE "GLORY GONGS" VIDEO BELOW FOR A PREVIEW. AND DEFINITELY SCOPE THE MIXTAPE FOREST SWORDS MADE FOR OUR FRIENDS AT GORILLA VS. BEAR EARLIER THIS WEEK. IT'S EXTRA DANK.

"DAGGER PATHS" FEATURES SIX TRACKS - FOUR OF WHICH WERE PREVIOUSLY AVAILABLE ON LIMITED CASSETTE RELEASES AND TWO BRAND NEW TRACKS. BUT IF YOU OWN THE TAPES OR HAVE DOWNLOADED TAPE RIPS THEN PREPARE FOR A BIG SURPRISE BECAUSE ALL OF THE TRACKS WERE SUPERBLY REMASTERED IN FULL 24-BIT FIDELITY BY CARL SAFF IN CHICAGO.

ALL THREE OF THESE LP'S WILL INCLUDE DOWNLOAD COUPONS FOR MP3 VERSIONS OF THE MUSIC & YOU CAN PRE-ORDER ANY OR ALL OF THEM RIGHT NOW OVER AT THE OESB SHOPPE. ALL PRE-ORDERS WILL SHIP OUT MARCH 1ST.

CARLOS ANTONIO - EL HOMBRE ORQUESTA - LIMA, PERU

CARLOS ANTONIO from OESB // FUTURE SOUND on Vimeo.

Olde English Spelling Bee is excited to announce a partnership with the MassTropicas label which is run out of Western Massachusetts by Michael Pigott.

Michael has been dedicated to hunting down musical obscurities in Peru and has some very exciting projects planned this year for his label MassTropicas. During one of his many trips to Peru he was introduced to street musician Carlos Antonio by local photographer Tunchi and arranged an informal recording session from which this video was made. Also worth checking out is Tunchi's awesome website of Lima street photographs here: http://www.limafotolibre.com/

Here's some background info from Michael:
"Carlos Antonio is known as El Hombre Orquesta (translation: one man band) and he has been playing on the streets for 24 years. He is originally from Chiclayo which is eight hours north of Lima. He plays his favorite cumbia and salsa songs from Peru and all over Latin America. The trumpet or kazoo like sound you hear is his "plastic trumpet" which is a soda bottle cut in half with a piece of plastic fashioned over the top with a rubberband. I recorded these songs last year in Lima on May 15th, we picked him up and brought him to a practice spot halfway across the city in a taxi. He played for an hour straight. Enjoy."

OESB will be the exclusive distributor of the Carlos Antonio cassette release on MassTropicas from these sessions. There were 100 cassettes professionally duplicated - half of these were given to Carlos in Peru and the remaining 50 copies will be available in the new distribution section of the OESB webstore -
